New Publication: “Evaluating the Film ‘If Not For Me’: Children and Clinical Studies”

January 7, 2019 -- If Not for Me is an hour-long documentary which tackles the tough questions many parents ask about pediatric research by talking with families who have been there. The film shares stories of families who have a child with a chronic or acute illness and were asked to join a research study. Clinical research for children is important to find new and better treatments, but misconceptions, fears and lack of information often lead parents to forgo enrollment of their children.  If Not For Me works to address those misconceptions by highlighting families that have gone through pediatric clinical trials.

To understand whether the film met our goals – improving general public understanding and awareness of the importance of research in children, we conducted a mixed methods evaluation with a national sample of 210 people.  Check out our newly published paper on the development and evaluation of this documentary-style film educating the general public on children and clinical studies. We found there was a significant increase in knowledge about pediatric clinical research.
